Anyone have toilet paper I could borrow? (Playing Doom 3 at midnight doesn't get along too well with the bowels).

speaking of being scared feces less, (Pg words are boring eh?) Bird flew into our garage and freaked out and defecated everywhere while hitting it's head into a window.

The tension rapidly bleeds away when you realize that a generic forgotten-horror-of-the-underworld or whatnot is going to jump out at you in virtually every room.
Not quite as much as Left4Dead, mind.

L4D was scary in a good way. I wasn't freaked out so much as having a hilarious amount of fun. I think it's because the game doesn't take itself seriously.

Once a critic...
But I see your point. Still a good game, though.

As I recall, the content was presented in a fairly lighthearted manner, hardly conducive to scariness. This was probably an intentional decision made in accordance with the multiplayer focus. After all, it would be a colossal challenge, if not an impossibility, to maintain a genuinely tense and scary atmosphere when the player is going to have three friends yammering away in his ear.
Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent game (see? I'm not always a critic) but there's nothing scary about it.
Oh, except the noises that boomers make. Those noises are bloody disturbing.

Re: The Voice of the Speaker in the Videos
Well, Zhukov, I don't find it scary anymore. Left 4 Dead is currently one of my favorite games and I play it a lot, so it's almost getting formulaic in the way that my friends and I play through it.
When I first got Left4Dead, however? Uh... Yeah.
Now, due to some inexplicable belief that it made us more manly we decided to begin playing on expert, which meant that it was very difficult, which does help make the game more tense. This will probably be less true on easier difficulties, sure, but comical? Not specifically, a lot of horror (grind house being a good example) is tongue in cheek, but that doesn't mean it's not scary. I bring up Shawn of the Dead, which is hilarious right up to the scene in the pub where they suddenly jack up the atmosphere and everything falls to pieces, does the imposing atmosphere jar with the fact that it's a comedy movie?
If you say yes I'm just going to accuse you of being a critic and shout "LALALALALALALA" at everything you say, you realize.
Perhaps you had a different approach when you played Left 4 Dead, but when I played it I had the lights off, the volume up and a positive sense of apprehension when I set out. I wasn't familiar with the system, the infected were intimidating and the special infected could appropriately ruin the best of our strategies. I hated being pounced on by a hunter, because the game engine was very good at jumping out on you.
Oh, and the witches. They're freaky, and I kept walking into them by accident.
Having played it to death since, no I'm not in the least bit shook up, but if you weren't wrapped up in the atmosphere in those first few plays AT LEAST i would argue that you are the exception there.
My conclusion is that you're either trying to big yourself up or you are an emotionless robot who cannot feel fear.

Re: The Voice of the Speaker in the Videos
To further illustrate my point, I'd like to add that even Yahtzee, the harsh critical bastard himself, conceded that Left 4 Dead had a fantastic atmosphere.
