Preorder Setup Guide

Post by Spinnacre » Sat Jan 09, 2010 3:13 pm

Quite possibly this has done this before.
A lot of people have been on IRC lately asking for setup help, so I have compiled a nice guide to save everyone's time. I hope someone will find it useful.

Natural Selection 2 Preorderers

If you preordered Natural Selection 2 before January 10th, you are eligible for a free Overgrowth key.
Copy your NS2 key here and then continue with the normal steps.
Visit the Pack FAQ for more info.

Basic Setup
  1. Create an account at http://forums.wolfire.com/ (You don't need to do this if you have one already)
  2. Buy the damn game! Visit the Preorder Page and use any of the payment methods provided. You can now pay by cash with MoneyPak

Make sure you type your email into the "Email Address" text box at the Wolfire site, even if someone else if buying for you. This address is where further information is sent and is crucial for the next step.
  3. Then click on the link in the "Thanks for preordering Overgrowth!" email (Check your spam if you cant find it), and make a note of your secret alpha key.

Your secret alpha key should look like this: [email protected]/textandnumbers/moretextandnumbers.
  4. Press submit and the text box and button should fade to "Processing... Please stand by!".
  5. If nothing happens after a while, open The Secret Preorder Forum in a new window or tab.
  6. If that works, you're good to go! Browse around and take a look at the exclusive secret stuff.
  7. Find the latest alpha either search through the Secret Preorder Forum or see the most recently updated alphas. Note: some alphas have been pulled, if this is the case, download the next latest alpha.
Help

If you forget your key you can always come back to your preorder panel by opening the link again. If you lose the email you can visit the Preorder Panel and have your key emailed to you again.

If you have any other problems, ask Jeff or John on IRC, Meebo, or email them!

If you have found any typos or things that don't make any sense, please leave a comment.

Does this work vice versa? Can I get a free Natural Selection 2 key from pre-ordering Overgrowth? I assume the answer's no, but I thought it was worth an ask.

hahah yeah that was definitely worth an ask. would've sucked for you to miss out on NS2 just because you didn't ask a question.

I don't want to disgrace any paper with my signature, but we can play some disc golf!

Perhaps we could celebrate the finishing of Lugartoo by doing just that with your favourite bunch of community members.
Make sure John's there. If he manages to resist until then, we'll bring the dye.
