I'm working on a payment plan system, so people can pay 5 installments of 5.99 for example.
Stay tuned!

Awesome! That might convince me to preorder.

I started working on it a while ago as a joke, but I have at least 5 people who will seriously preorder at that rate instead of the lump sum, so I think I am onto something.

I don't really understand the point of it, but hey, I might buy it that way. Weird, huh.

Or you could just sell your soul. Then everyone is happy. You get Overgrowth and David gets your soul.
Btw, i would sell my soul if i was able to rock a beard like John.

I know QVC and other "shop at home" network channels have similar systems, but I thought those were more for people who live month-to-month and don't understand the concept of saving up for something.
I like to run my personal finances like I do in games - do work, save up the cash, and then splurge it on the best sword/gun/staff/armor available in the shop. Hell, I started saving up for my car when I was nine.
I think the work required to implement such a system for Overgrowth wouldn't be worth it, but maybe the novelty of such a system is enough to warrant exploring.
For example, if a person only pays out a fraction of the payment plan and reneges, what happens? How will partial funds collected in this manner be allocated for finances - I'm thinking on the larger scale here, like if EA implemented the system. Might the subscriber have access to parts of a game as they pay?
This last one seems like it's already here, though, since it feels like we're paying for games piecemeal what with DLC everywhere. What's strange is when a company releases a major DLC or expansion merely a few months after the main release (eg: Red Alert 3 and Uprising) - makes me feel like they were holding things back just so they could charge for them later.
The Sims is an especially good example of this piecemeal gaming. How much of these expansions were content originally intended for the main release, but held back so they could charge for it later as "additional content"?
Like putting out loss leaders and recouping the profits in later, sometimes necessary content.
Rather shady to me.

And did you get your car?

Yes, ten years later, when I wanted one. I was able to pay for it in full at the time, but got a loan so I could build up some credit history.

Wow.. Willpower.
How the hell could you resist not buying something more useful for 10 more years (since a car doesn't really become useful until you can drive it)..

How silly is a society, where you are urged to buy something on credit and pay interest, although you have enough money, just to look good in a data record.

Oh, I still kept a portion of money on the side to entertain myself with.
And that credit history really helped later on when I got my mortgage.

It's not everywhere like this. Germany doesn't put such a big emphasis on credit as the US does, for example.
Around here, most people pay by cash or per direct debit, actually. Older people still prefer cheques by far. Especially credit cards are rarely used by the lower middle class, that's something that's completely different in the US. Credit cards are regarded as a form of luxury.
