Flute tabs

Post by Venatir » Thu Feb 18, 2010 5:53 am

I was just playing them for myself and just noticed that we might have differed kind of flute, because the flute I have cannot play the dark tune between 6 and 7. So I tried to move the tabs up one step, but now it its really confusing to play.

guess this is a job for ms paint...

edit

after mixing a little, the original still sounds better. I guess I have to skip that part

You mean the flutes used for the OG theme?

Theres a guest blog from Mikko Tarmia (the guy who makes the music for OG) somewhere on the blog, where he shown his flutes. Im sure you can find it :)

The Flute I used to record with is a Native American flute in D. It can't actually play all the notes in the song, and I had to pitch shift a few to make it work correctly. But, any flute that will play an Aeolian scale with about a range of an octave and a half "should" be able to play it, just maybe not in the original key.
Here's the blog on my flutes: http://blog.wolfire.com/2009/08/playing ... vergrowth/
And here's one where I play the flute live (it is the same flute from the recording...): http://blog.wolfire.com/2010/01/Anton-s ... erformance
If you pay attention, the melody deviates slightly from the real tune.

I'm glad it's sounding better. When you are really happy with it you should make a recording so we can hear it.
I'd be interested in knowing the non-english name for your flute as well... probably more interested in that than the English translation.

I only know the name of 2 of my flutes
Altblockflöjt (flöjt = flute)
Sopranblockflöjt

about that recording
I dont have any good recording tools. The best I have is an 3 year old mobile phone
I dont want to ruin such a good theme with such bad video/sound quality

Google Translate is not really helpful on this matter.

It translates "blockflöjt" into "recorder".. now that makes sense!

Actually, it looks like it IS a recorder. This was an image I found searching for blockflöjt:

They actually play in a very similar way to the Native American flutes, and kinda sound similar, so they should be great!

There's a group in Los Angeles that is a recorder orchestra that I have worked with several times. It is a very cool and unique sound. http://www.larohome.org/

Yes, as a matter of fact, I used to play one. I have since neglected the instrument. I blame BioWare.

You can remove buzzing with Audacity, with a feature called "Noice Cancelation".
First, load a section that is ONLY BUZZ, then run noice cancelation on the entire file :D

Is it just me or do the ending from both live and theme differ from the sheet?
