Was the program purposefully made to attain sentience and do something other than it was programmed to do?
If you try to make a CD player and end up with a blender it can be considered a malfunctioning CD player ...

I am in the habit of deleting the subject line from my posts. An odd side effect is that anyone who quotes me (or quotes someone who quoted me) ends up with "Re: Re" as their subject.
Diabolical, is it not?
