Here is a" strange" "project"

this is simple ai in a "context" environment

the cat is an imaginary character; it sits in a room surrounded by objects; you tell it about the objects; the cat remembers it and recalls the information when needed. I can draw additional objects and tell the cat about it; it has a very good memory :) it is able to keep simple conversations...

Andrei: Hello.

Cat:
Long time no see Andrei!.

Andrei: What's NEW with you?.

Cat:
I'm not certain, but I believe that I have a new motorcycle maintenance book.

Andrei: Tell ME about the NEW book.

Cat: Ok.

Andrei: What is that new book?.

Cat: I have a new motorcycle maintenance book.

Andrei: Is it about motorcycle maintenance?.

Cat: The book on motorcycle maintenance that you see on my shelf is not about motorcycles. it is about philosophy....

the cat is "powered" by the free answerpad plus program. the program allows any background picture to be set.

Internet problems destroyed my longer reply... I'm going to sum it up very bluntly, but this is just because I can't be bothered to write it well for the second time.

I like the cat, especially the green eyes. I'm not interested in that program.

Did you do the furry look with Photoshop's Smudge tool (the finger tool)?

What's up with the tunnel thing; on the top it's a tunnel going into the distance, on the bottom the rounded shadow makes it look like an alcove. If it's supposed to be a tunnel, the shadows in the bottom should have hard angles.

Again, sorry for the bluntness...

hey endo, thanks for the suggestions. blunt suggestions don't bother me at all. in fact, such suggestions are helpful. they work like looking at my sketches in the mirror, you know :D

i've been playing with photoshop elements for a week now with the new used tablet that i've got. this is my first venturing into digital arts. i've tried painter 11, but went back to photoshop because of my favorite finger painting tool. i do like it very much. use it almost exclusively; have not had a chance to try all that both programs have to offer.

it's an alcove. will work on it some more. it does look like a tunnel on the top, i see that now, need to fix it.

I've been practicing a little again. Train trips tend to do that since there's little else to do... I won't post all of them since they're not that interesting.
Image

I also practiced some perspective. I recently realized that my dice will work well for perspective practice.
Image

All this practice got me into the mood to do something more interesting, so I tried copying Nikolai Roerich's painting "Holy Island. You can compare it to the original here.

Does anyone here actually use online resources?

I haven't actually tried looking for online resources, but I found http://www.drawspace.com/ just now, and it looks very nice. There's a huge amount of tutorials in there and the site is nicely laid out, but the most interesting thing is how much time is spent on the very basics. The advanced stuff is advanced and looks good, and there's lots of nice tips in there, but a poor drawer like me can't jump there yet. :(

Any way, the forum section there is almost empty, even though people have to register before they can see the tutorials. That got me wondering if artistic types usually use internet resources, of if they just draw, draw draw.

I've started my texturing practice for the summer, and this is going to be hard... I'm trying to do some sort of wood and metal, but the wood is amazingly difficult even though I have all the work files left from the game project to look at. Hopefully this gets easier with practice...

I was supposed to practice texturing all this week, but I had to design a simple web page, and tomorrow I can't come to school... Not a strong start for the summer. I made a small painting based on a photo floral arrangement (source).

I think the blue "obl" and "pro" don't stand out enough from the blue background. Could you give them light outline instead of dark? The small 'b' in "obl" doesn't look enough like a b. People who don't know what the "obl" means might not understand what they're meant to be.

But wow, an abstract logo design... I have no idea how one goes around doing that. That's awesome... I also like how the "productions" moves from blue against bluish background to a very colourful and bright and rich against a mostly-white background. I also really like all the movement in it.

I have never tried logos before, but I though it might be fun so I edited the logo you showed.

I am am unsure if it got better or worse though :\

thats a pretty interesting rendition ya did there.

just a bit dark though, and a little tooo... "much" for the concept i was going for. that doesn't mean its terrible though.

i remember when i was first starting out on graphics i used to get bashed on hard for things that i did and they called "overkill". its the "overkill" that really gets one accompanied to the program they are using to begin with.

one pointer i can give witch really makes a good difference is to up the contrast/brightness to finish off your project. it brings out the colors and the blacks.
do this by clicking;
Layer>New Adjustment Layer> Brightness and contrast.

thats if you are using photoshop though. i am assuming.

i made a little banner for my brothers punk band today for their myspace. its nothing fancy, its a punk band so i wasn't exactly going for that "professional" look.
Image

i am actually not to satisfied with the text on the bottom right. what can i say sometimes i just get lazy

i also made this for them as a little joke. this is a great example though of how contrast can really make the difference. on the banner above the colors really stand out more in the background. with this one i didnt edit the contrast and it is significantly duller. witch is why i will go back and edit it.

if any of you are into punk/ska you can find them here http://www.myspace.com/perversepunx

I think that could be improved a lot. The background is red and white, and the actual imagery is in black. The contrast between red and white is stronger than the contrast between the black and the background. A fast way to see this is to go to Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation (or Ctrl+U), choose Reds, change Lightness. Even pure black bars instead of red make the imagery stand out better, even though it obstructs large parts of the image.

You can keep the red bars if you want to, but if you want the image to be readable at a glance, something would have to change. I don't know what, though!
