Hey I'm new to the forums and I was wondering if anyone could answer any of my questions on Overgrowth.
1.When will Wolfire Games release it?
2.Is a demo going to be available? I'm a try before I buy kind of guy.
3.Will you be emailed a serial number as soon as you buy it, or will you have to download the full version file?
4.How large will the file be approximately?
5.If I buy Overgrowth after it's released will I receive the Map editor And all of the good alpha stuff?
Thanks in advance.

1. It's TBA at the moment
2. I'm pretty sure there will be, but I have no source.
3. You will be emailed a serial key
4. Last time I checked the installer was about 500mb (That might also be my memory being a dick)
5. YES!

3. Note that Sandurz's answer only describes the current situation. I get the feeling the OP wanted to know if he'd have to download anything else after he's finished the demo, and we have no idea at all about that ATM.

4. The alpha is currently 500 mb, but the alpha doesn't have all the assets they have made for the game, to save on bandwidth. In addition to the alpha assets, there's a data pack of over 2 gb, so I think the full game will be at least 2.5 gb.

But asset and level design development is still in its early stages... 2.5 gb at the very minimum, but I think it's realistic to say that you can expect at least twice that by the very end.

Are both the binaries and the data updated every week? How are the updates distributed? patches or a new archive every week?

(I am trying to decide if my awful "internet connection" could handle it or not - 3GB initial download plus 200MB updates every week is manageable. A full 3GB refresh every week is not possible.)

There's no auto-updater and no patches, at the moment. However, the alphas and the extra data are separated to keep it somewhat accessible for those with slow connection.

The initial download of 500 MB or so contains the binaries, several levels and enough assets to test out the level editor and even do some new levels. Hale's Foothold only used the default assets, for example, and there should be a blog post about it somewhere.

You have to download the about-500 MB again every time you want a newer alpha. Many people only seem to download new alphas when something that interests them was updated. They're working on animation workflow now, so unless you're interested in animation you might not have any reason to download new alphas for a few weeks.

As for the extra data, well, it's extra and you do NOT need it, at all. It's just more models and textures and decals and terrains and stuff. The extra data is updated occassionally, I'm not sure how often but not weekly in any case.

Thanks for that. 500MB every once and a while shouldn't be much of a problem.
