Few questions before preorder

Post by Pavke » Fri Jan 14, 2011 6:25 pm

Hello there everybody! I have been watching awesome Overgrowth Alfa videos for some time now and I want to preorder. But $30 is a little bit pricey so I have few questions just to make sure what am I getting.

Q1: When I preorder do I get all Win, Mac, Lin builds or is the game just built in Win and later ported to other systems?

Q2: When Overgrowth finally hits game store shelfs what "genre" it will be? Although Alfa videos look epic right now, I don't understand the final gameplay. Will it be like Lugaru, some kinda light RPG... Sorry if this is a noobie question :(

Q3: Do editors come with preorder, like in the videos? I don't mean heavy-duty editors for designing models and animations but simple map editor that we can play in?

Welcome to the forums! :)

A1: You get all three versions, they are being developed simultaneously, right now a critical component isn't available for the Linux version (Awesomium), but the devs of that software says there should be an experimental version out for Linux this month. So when that's sorted, all three platforms will be going strong (so there's no Linux alpha right now, but that will come).

A2: I don't think the game will actually be available in stores, but only time can tell. It'll probably be a fighting game? The gameplay will be like Lugaru, but much more evolved, that's the best way to describe it.

A3: Yep, the editor comes with the game. Also, if you would like to create new models, animations and/or textures, they want to make sure you can do so without having to buy any software, so you'll be able to mod Overgrowth using free tools.

If you have any more questions just ask away! :)

Oh, thank you for the quick reply! appreciate :)

Yeah, one more: What re specs for Overgrowth? Will I be able to run it on Code2Duo [email protected], 2GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB)

Gonna preorder for sure! In a week or two, I can't preorder now because I will fail all my midterm exams! :)

Since the game is in alpha and hasn't been optimized, graphic cards can cause problems. Poor cards, old cards, some specific cards... So if there's any problems, it's probably going to be that, and it's really hard to know how well a specific card plays it. Your card seems to be based on the 8400M-GS . A preorderer called Radu has done an awesome job updating a thread where people can report which cards are working, and several laptop GFX cards near 8400 have been reported working (nVidia GeForce 8600M GT, nVidia GeForce 9600M, nVidia GeForce 9400M, nVidia GeForce 9300M GT). So it's likely it would work, but there's no guarantee. If it doesn't work, you could most probably get your money back.

You need 3rd-party software to edit many things. For example, terrains are generated from heightmap images, and can't be edited in-game. Level editing (adding in objects, moving/scaling them, adding decals etc) works, scripting is possible but it's mostly undocumented so there haven't been many mods yet, internal animation and rigging editors are disabled right now but can be done in Blender 3D and exported into the game.

wow, this community is very active and supportive. Thanks for explaining that to me. But it's not a problem now, I'm so exited that I will probably get a new laptop if Overgrowth doesn't work on this on :)

Hey guys, thought I might quickly hijack this thread. I just wanted to know, before pre-ordering the game, whether my ATI Radeon HD 4850 will be supported. I just don't want to buy the game and then find it doesn't work on my computer.

Cheers for any help.
