Phoenix Engine 12-24-05 More Physics

Post by David » Sat Dec 24, 2005 7:15 pm

I am back from college for winter break, so I have much more time to work on Lugaru 2 programming 8) Most of our efforts recently have been on content creation; we now have most of the weapon models done, most of the furniture textures done, and many of the sounds and songs completed.

Yesterday I spent a lot of time adapting the Lugaru point-constraint physics system for rigid body dynamics and collisions, so now arbitrary objects can move around the terrain and collide with each other realistically. Here are some pictures of a fairly standard physics example: a stack of crates falling over. I gave Turner the ability to force push and pull so I could test out physics :)

3D sound is also working, so it sounds right when the crates hit each other or fall on the grass, and when Turner steps on the ground at different speeds.

wow... i'm speechless.

It's looking amazing david. But i am with ridestowe on this and if you could make a little Gif of images or something, i think we would all be in even more awe.

P.S. just curious, what is that in the background? it looks almost like a table or a doll house...

Looks like weapons and furniture to me. Floating weapons and furniture.

Wow, nice! Physics was a huge asset to the gameplay in L1, I'm sure this will be even better!

I'd need to see something animated before I could judge how great the physics engine is.

Those boxes are not keyframed from the looks of it.

...Right. But I'd need to see something animated anyways. Just saying it looks like it's good doesn't justify how good it actually is.

Yes it looks good, but it would be even more awesome if there was some kind of animated gif.

my geuss is Jeff is making his remark from seeing David's work first hand, but i agree an animated gif or some sort of video would be nice, although I would rather see David working on the game not showing us the game
