Taking requests for a Cocoa game

Post by Jeff » Mon Jan 30, 2006 11:24 am

I am taking a class on Mac OS X programming and part of that class is the final project, which can be virtually any program you want to make. So naturally, I want to make a game. Any requests? I am not a good artist, so unless someone wants to donate graphics, keep that in mind.

Make a GTA-Like top-down view 2D shooter. Without the cars at first. I could donate some graphics, or make a nice in-game menu.

See if you'd like to use these as weapon icons: http://nosuchdomain.net/weapons.png

I made them some time ago for a project that's not active anymore, so you can have them. Oh, and of course I also have those on a transparent background.

Ready to use, complete with slogan and game title. I'll see if I can digg up some other stuff.

What kind of games can Cocoa make? I have some ideas, but they are pretty complicated.

Cocoa isn't one of those game builder programs, you can make anything.

I know that, but do you know any PC games made with Cocoa? I've tried looking for some, but I only found a stupid puzzle crap game.

Cocoa is Apple's framework for Mac OS X, so you won't see any PC games using it. It is the rough equivalent of Microsoft's C#/.NET. I could use it to make a 3d OpenGL game, but I'd like to keep it relatively simple, like a top down GTA game.

GTA 2 clone would be way to stupid. Go with a shadow of the colossus clone. :)

Make a game about, say, an archangel guarding the heaven's gates. Sinners try to reach them, and he strikes them with lightnings... They fall into the clouds and disappear. levels, time running out, points etc... :)

A flipper is always fun.

Or a side scrolling shoot 'em up. 2 levels should be enough to impress.

Edit: Or a "We love Katamari"-clone! Top-down, I'd say.
