Just letting you know Jeff, Quartz is hella slow. Believe me when I say this. OpenGL is probably a better path for you if you want to make a game. You might make puzzle games or stuff with Quartz, but I'm pretty sure it would be a better idea to use OpenGL. Take these words with some salt though, i have yet to complete a game using Cocoa (i quit a little while ago, as my partner was adamant on using BlitzMax, and I figured a BASIC (although OO) derivative is easier for me to learn than for him to learn Cocoa and such. Sorry for the rants, but good luck on w/e you do, I vote for a top down black shades clone myself.

How 'bout a Worms clone? Something along the lines of Lightning's Shadow, but with three/four weapons and removed-pixel-by-pixel, not by-huge-chunks-of-background landscape?

Good idea. I think at this point I am leaning towards a Lightnings Shadow game, because then I could support multiplayer too.

I need to do this by May 3rd. If you guys want to start creating graphics and ideas, that would be sweet. I will post updates as they come, although I probably won't be able to do some serious coding for a couple of weeks - I only have one Cocoa class per week which is where I am going to learn the language.

What kind of "people" would be shooting eachother?
I doubt you'd use worms or mages..
I'd gladly do some graphics, if even only to be rejected. I don't care if you would use it or not, cause the fun is in the making of it
/me thinks of stuff to draw
you need soundeffects / background music?
ambient, windy stuff, maybe?
and shots, kabooms and crackles?

How is EvilPenguin allowed come back as EvolPenguin when he was banned?

OT, but I wondered that too

<Off-topic warning>
I wondered that too, but if you look at EvolPenguin's profile you'll see he joined the forums a long time ago, on Apr 7 2004 (more than a year before EvilPenguin, Oct 9 2005, btw), so he's probably a different person.

Uhm... I got bored and started making a map and stuff...
http://img205.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... ie13wy.jpg
This is something of the brightest I have made, but, oh well..
Layers are in this order:
- Background
- Clouds (hidden)
- Simplified mask (less edges than foreground, also, this is where they would walk/projectiles would hit)
- Grass (Yes, grass are behind the ground, but before the peoples)
- Ground
- Windmeter Background (hidden behind Windmeter)
- Windmeter
- WDirection background
- WDirection arrow
And, no, I have no idea if this game would use wind at all, but maybeh
And, yes, it's not nice.
Quickly done.
Sorry.
/me goes to add more ugly stuff... oh, wait, I can't. I don't know how this game would be.

Sweet!
That was NOT ugly.
But that does not mean it can't be improved.
I don't think the ground should be green,
make it brown (earth
) or something.
And add some flowers and bushes and stuff
