Wolves on Insane.

Hi, new Lugaru player here, just discovered this masterpiece yesterday.

So I'm on Level 13 on Insane and I'm having some problems with these nasty wolves. So I've noticed that the game speed on Insane seems to be faster, in addition to that, wolves now like to run around animal style now which happens to be a lot faster than poor Turner. To make matters worse, they tackle from a million miles away in what seems like wolf-teleport.

I was already having trouble with wolves in the other difficulties, but now I'm practically hopeless.

In Easier, my strategy was sweep kick + kick for 2x combo, and then I'd jump flip over them while they were getting up to confuse them, and then attempt a Rabbit Kick from behind. If I could I'd launch them into a wall or an obstacle for OHKO, otherwise I'd just rinse and repeat until dead.

In Difficult, I realized that wolves are actually easier to kill when you fight more than one of them at a time. I would just jump and flip around them like crazy and wait for the opportunity to Rabbit Kick one of them into the rest of them like bowling pins. When I got lucky I could kill 2 or even 3 of them in one attack.

On Insane, every missed Rabbit Kick results in me getting repeatedly tackled to death by the pack, and hanging around to box with them is hopeless even 1 on 1. I've come this far by luck and bo staffs.

Some input on viable anti-wolf strategies on Insane would be very appreciated, thanks.

insane (level 13 no less) in a day, inability to kill wolves is not a problem, just practice. the things in the wiki will probably help to, although i never reeally consulted it in my learning, which is still in proccess and will forever be (damn starting WoW again is taking up all my gaming time).

Killing wolves can be a problem, especially in packs. Try not to fight them in packs unless you really know what you're doing. (Not that I'm saying you don't...)

I made a movie that shows how to jump, flip, and tracheotomy a wolf after he's been alerted. I also wrote a topic a while ago that told some topics about how to kill wolves, but it's at the bottom of the first page now, and I'm not exactly sure how long a topic is unactive before it becomes a bump.

I've resorted to standing in place and hop-flipping around like a mad man until the wolf stops either right in front of me with his back to me or rolling distance away, then I cut him with a dagger or sword.

This is time consuming, inconsistent, and silly, but it's the only way I can handle wolves on insane at the moment.

EDIT: Finally beat level 13.

I think you'll need this very soon. (Although I think I remember "alpha wolf" beat the level without spinecrushing.)

Heh, I beat level 14 on Insane without stealth.

Just like I did with the earlier difficulties, I piss off all 3 of them and then I hop and flip in place so they stand around scratching their butts, I have to move around a bit until all 3 of them are standing together. Then I slowly hop flip to a good position behind one of them and Rabbit Kick him into the others to kill 2/3rds of the problem right there.

Then it's 1 on 1, and I just hop flip into position while he stands around doing nothing and Rabbit Kick, now eventually when he's mortally wounded he won't just stand around while I flip around like crazy, so I have to kill him before he can do this. So on what I believe to be the second to last Rabbit Kick i'll try to Rabbit Kick him again on his return. This has a pretty high chance of success since he's coming back immediately from another Rabbit Kick and is near death.

I got this level in 5 tries, as opposed to the 30+ tries level 13 took me. It's odd, but apparently the wolf AI on level 13 is different than the wolf AI on level 14. The wolves in level 14 still animal run and tackle unlike the earlier difficulties, but they don't handspring when you flip, which means that while you're flipping they just stand in place doing nothing unless you get too far away, then they approach you and stand in place doing nothing. The wolves in level 13 will handspring away from you when you are flipping, this prevents you from setting them up for an attack.

EDIT: I've had no luck killing a wolf with spinecrusher, in fact I've never killed a wolf with spinecrusher. In every circumstance I would be able to kill them with a dagger or sword, if I try to do a spinecrusher, I just get a sweeping kick that knocks them down instead, or worse, a sweeping kick that gets reversed and I die.

Wow. That was fast.

If you want to continue burning through maps, there are some good ones on the wiki.

Sorry about my startegy for the jump flip treacheotomy, Gamut. Silb had a much better one, which was: Jump flip with your knife unsheathed, land behind them,(they won't roll) immediately take out the knife and attack. This is much easier.

I haven't manged to land behind a wolf that was not yet alert to my presence.

All of my stealth kills were done after alerting them by jumping and flipping into place, or letting them roll in front of me.

Okay I seriously can't get this spinecrusher thing to work.

I read the thread, I go against the wind, I hold forward.

Problem 1: Even when I appear to be going directly against the wind the wolf becomes alert before I've landed behind him.

Problem 2: If I hold forward and shift, I roll as soon as I land, putting me in front of the wolf.

Problem 3: If I just hold shift, Turner does a sweeping kick and not a spine crusher.
