Fiery Problem

Post by BunnyWithStick » Tue Dec 05, 2006 9:50 pm

Normally I don't have any problems with map making, but it seems that I've either forgotten how to create flaming bushes, or it no longer works.

Running through a bush while on fire sets it alight, but it doesn't seem to save the bush being on fire (I'm sure it worked before, but now it doesn't)

Using the "Fire" object doesn't work either, I've tried creating it in the same place as a bush and it doesn't work, I've tried creating it just before I created a bush, and that didn't work.

Essentially, Me, Fire, and Lugaru Maps do not mix.

Any help here? I've done a search on the wiki and the forums, no success.

I've never used the editor, but this might work...
Have you tried making an enemy on-top of the bush, making them really, really, really small, and then lighting them on fire?

No, I haven't tried it, I've only tried what I've said I tried, though I don't like the idea of that, as it would involve having an enemy there that almost for sure would not be on fire, and it would clog up the characters list. I'll try it though.

I just tried it, and it doesn't work. Thanks for trying, though!

You make Turner bigger by typing into the console things like:

size 1.4
sizenear 1.4

the other is to make the closest person to you get bigger.

I really don't think you've forgotten because it seems to never work that way for anybody. Whenever David or Silb made burning bushes they just put the fire object directly over the bush so it appeared to be on fire. Nobody will ever realize that it really isn't because it only catches on fire when a moving person touches it, and that's the only time it's needed.

Yeah, but adding a fire object doesn't work, no fire even appears, let alone after I save it. Adding fire used to work, but it wouldn't work when I saved it.

are the Image Files of the flames in your files?
A they In the Campaign? (I Suppose no, but I still like to Throw a Dead Chicken if that is the term)

Fire works, but the object "Fire" doesn't.

I don't know that you can save bushes having been set on fire. Like Zantalos said, both in the regular campaign and in mine, it's actually just a fire object on a bush object.

About the fire problem itself: I think I have the same issue as you, but I haven't experimented much with fires. All I can say is: when I create a fire, save and reload, either:
-the fire is never there.
-it's always there (like it's supposed to be).
-it's sometimes there, sometimes not, each time I reload the map.
In all cases, the "fire object" exists, because you can delete it. It's just not displayed.
When you further edit the map, the fire behaviour (among the three above) sometimes changes.
I hope you'll find a workaround.

Also, in my experience, an enemy rabbit who falls through a fire doesn't catch on fire (although you would).

Oh really? Then why is it that other times when I created fire objects, I suddenly got set on fire, and a fire appeared where I created it?

It doesn't do that anymore.

And yes, I have tried reloading the map, several times after trying different things.

That reminds me of how whoever is in your avatar looks to be gastrically distressed. :P

Seriously, it's not hard to imagine it…
