Picture/Video recorder
Picture/Video recorder
There should be a picture/video recorder installed into lugaru 2 for taking screenshots and demos and gamepaly videos. It isn't that hard, there is a screenshot [and sometimes video] recorder in many games that is assigned to a key [usually F12 or Prt Scr]. Is this possible?

Is it going to be just an in-game replay feature or will this thing be capable of encoding videos? You know, with audio and video codecs, putting out a synched .ogm container or whatever, containing an Xvid- and an Ogg-Vorbis-stream? Because that's what people want. And it's not as easy to do as Szs315 seems to think.
Well, using the codecs is easy, but synching the stuff is not.

Alright... Here is the plan.
Screenshots:
- You hit F10 or something and it pauses the game and opens up a PhoenixUI screenshot window. In this window, you can choose a selection of the screen or the whole thing, and maybe have some options to modify the picture like turn on motion blur, etc. You can either save the screenshot to disk, or you can automatically have it uploaded to your wolfire.net account for easy forum posting. This will also guarantee that it was a real, non-photoshopped Lugaru screenshot.
There will also be a "quick screenshot" function that bypasses the dialog and takes screenshot immediately.
Movies:
Much like the screenshot feature, a dialog in PhoenixUI will pop up with a bunch of options. It will create a DivX file or Quicktime file, depending on what you want, and create a native Lugaru replay file. We are working with Revver / YouTube / etc in order to be able to directly export the DivX movie online for easy posting - not sure if we want to host thousands of movies on our own servers...
The native replay files, on the other hand, will be very small, so they can be hosted on your wolfire.net. There will be an interface in the game to view a library of your recordings and features like the hall of fame will have recordings available for each record.
There will be a lugaru:// protocol that automatically downloads a lugaru replay and launches lugaru to view it.

That will be the greatest screenshot taking, movie capturing game technology in the world. Seriously, nothing even comes close to that, it's way ahead of EVERYTHING!
And you know how you said there could be a way to modify the picture, like putting in motion blur? Does that mean we could also take high quality pictures if we're playing on low detailed settings, like toggle on all the max settings from the UI when we take our picture? Please put that in there Jeff!

I mean, why do it? If someone wants to put his video on YouTube, let him do it, but making some video stream site's features part of the game will just produce problems. There's no additional value by binding Lugaru 2 to such a site.
You could easily get the same point across by just adding some links to video websites in appropriate places.
Edit: I probably shouldn't judge it, it's your decision.
