Alright, this is a dumb question, but which file to you download? They got all these funny extension names and they are in order of version number, but the release dates are completely random I can't even understand.

Gimp binaries for Windows: http://www.gimp.org/windows/
Same for Macintosh: http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/

Read, follow instructions, done.

Usagi, you've got other bonusses, for example the oh-so-mighty color profile feature. Quite useful for photographers.

Hehe, everybody says Linux is soo complicated, but to get Gimp, I just have to enter

Code: Select all

apt-get install gimp
...as root. Way easier than on any other OS. And to update it (along with all other installed programs), I just enter

Code: Select all

apt-get update
followed by

Code: Select all

apt-get upgrade
You poor Mac / Windows guys have to download every single patch by hand, install it separately .. Well, you could always switch :)

Don't reply to this.

Shouldn't [rant] turn all your letters into caps in red?

I'm not being a smartass, though; I am gonna give Gimp a try.

And I never have to download patches or upgrades; Software Update does it for me.

PS: Pop quiz: Who said, "Get the gimp."

Anything that requires the knowledge of command line tools is automatically more complicated than Windows or Mac OS X.

Jeff, I didn't want you to reply. We all know it's not the whole truth, rants are rants, I skipped some chapters for the fun of it, the usual.
The whole apt-get stuff is accessible via wrapper GUIs, by the way. Even without any interaction at all if you want to. Check out Debian if that sounds interesting to you. It's free software (unless your computer combusts spontaneously during installation, but that happens less and less these days and is at least cozy from the right distance).

...It's a forum. Replies happen or threads would never have more than one post.

Software Update observation seconded, anyway.

It's not a serious demand that noone replies to that. I just want to keep this away from the typical flamewar. Isn't that kind of obvious? Probably not in english. Lesson learned.

Actually, installing each patch by hand only involves downloading the patch, running the patch, and quitting the patch. If you needed to you could do the whole thing in the Terminal in one line of chained commands.

I get the feeling you probably knew this though.

Lol

Oh and if you were so lazy that you couldn't install a few patches manually then you probably are of no use to society. :P

(It's just a joke! Don't get mad at me. :()
