I couldn't help but to post this song on here (what would have prevented me? :P It's on my resume)... throw away that old piece of junk music3.mp3  and install this baby: http://eerieshrine.com/music3.mp3 . 8) Comments (would be nice)?

PS: It's kind of long for an intro track... change it if you want. There's nothing that's preventing you to. I just thought it sounded like the intro type of track :D .

Edit: ...And what I meant by the old one was MY old one. The regular one isn't that good either though...

Listening to it as I'm typing. And I'll be honest.
I like it. I really do. But the flutes are kinda clashing with the mood of the other elements =P
Other than that, I like your composition, and doesn't think it's long for an intro at all. Perfect length, imho. Pretty cinematic too, if I must say <3.

Where did you steal this? <.<!
(Or alternatively; how did you make this? =3)

I "stole" this from scratch on my computer with GarageBand and the Symphony Orchestra jam pack. Yep... GarageBand's way better than Reason if you ask me. Im probably going to take out the flutes in the middle because I've been hearing the same from others. I'll be back with a new song and an updated version of the other one once I get my laptop back.

That is kick ass stuff Nick! and I don't say that lightly.
I think thats good enough to be put in L2, although it reminds me of Rome for some odd reason.

Garageband? Seriously? I thought garageband was sampling/audio studio, and not some sort of sequencer?

And yes; I want your skills. Give me your skills!

Just start playing piano, and invest in a couple jam-packs and practice... a LOT :P . And also... the only time I used my keyboard for this was for the brass, other than that I arpegiated all the rest through the MIDI edit sequencer. All of it's original... none are apple loops. All software instrumets... all skillz  ! MWAHAHAHA!!! I HAVE NUCKY'S WANTED SKILLS!!

The problem with GarageBand is that most people are lazy and don't write their own loops. Most people don't even understand the power of GarageBand's sequencer. But as far as mixing goes, Reason (or FL Studio) is far superior to GarageBand.

Are you kidding me  ?? GarageBand's WAY better than both those put together. If you were to work with all three (like I did) and see which one's easier to sequence (with AND without a keyboard), has better quality sound, has better effects, and more sounds... Garageband's the one to go with :x .

Pros and cons everywhere. Reason integrates way better into professional suites than GarageBand does. GarageBand gives faster results.

Considering sound quality.. This heavily depends on numerous factors, not just the software. But you're right, Reason almost never gets deep freqs perfect if you use it as a wav sequencer with the given mastering capabilities. But it definitely does a good job combined with MIDI hardware.

Both programs need postprocessing though - never expect a realtime-oriented software to get things right if you have a good ear. As one can experience listening to your song  It's almost distorted.

The standard sounds of a program are not a measure for the program's quality itself, if you ask me. I'm making my own samples anyway.

I like the melody.

imho, Reason is a little limited regarding the samplers and generators and all that, while Garageband ... No, I shall not say anything about that yet untill I have tried...

For me, there's endless possibilities in FL Studio, which is my main suite. Here you can have as many of those funky VSTs as you want while also having great control of individual samples, as well as good mastering.

I should boot me mac and try out me Garageband a little.

I've used all three programs. What annoys me about Garageband is that you can't synthesize your own sounds. If I want a certain sound in FL Studio, I can make it myself. In Garageband, I have to hunt for it.

Also, mixing. I can't apply specific effects to certain sound channels in Garageband.

So, yes, Garageband is easy to sequence. As far as mastering goes, it is far inferior to other music programs.

Well today's my birthday, and my parents are thinking about ordering a Fantom X7 for me. We're kinda poor, but if I work for my dad over the summer I can probably get it. So if I do, garage band's going to be all I need.

In GarageBand you can make it yourself, actually. NickD's screenshot shows this, down the bottom are some values you can change to make your own sounds (To a certain degree). I do agree you can probably make more varied sounds in FL Studio, though.

I wouldn't really call that making your own sound, changing the effects, frequency, etc lightly. If there were waveshaping in the picture, then I could possibly agree.
