Anyone else notice that, this is (probably) the 666th topic in the Lugaru forum?

How do you come to that conclusion?

I think Renegade's comma is correct but optional, while Invertin's is not correct.

No, there is no irony. As David said, the comma I placed in the sentence was optional. I could have left it out, but I didn't. Both ways are correct.

It is the same in David's post. He could have written it either as "I think Renegade's comma is correct but optional, while Invertin's is incorrect.", or as "I think Renegade's comma is correct, but optional, while Invertin's is incorrect."

However, Invertin's was placing a pause where there should be no pause.

there is a conjunction, but it's not joining two complete phrases. "Was quite grammatically incorrect." is not a complete sentence on it's own so there isn't a need for the comma there.

No, Renegade, you're completely wrong. Cmyszka is quite correct. If you'd repeated the subject by saying "and _it_ was quite grammatically incorrect", it would've been acceptable, but in its current form your sentence is a grammatical atrocity and horribly ironic in its stupidity. (No, it's not "atrocity, and" since as a comma does not belong there...)
