Myself, I can never really choose. When going for quick kills, I try to obtain a sword or a staff.
When playing around and looking for fun, it's unarmed or knife for me.

I like the staff because it always has a guaranteed kill if they're on the ground, and getting them on the ground is always easy. Unarmed is probably the most enjoyable though...

Knife is the best because you can throw it.

But just slinging it is lame, also it can miss :p

This is why you use it intelligently, rather than just throwing it at the first opportunity.
However, a throwing a knife and missing can be useful. You can get the target to try to dodge your knife...off a cliff or...into a fire.

There isn't really a best weapon. It depends on the situation. For attacking (when the enemy is unarmed) knife, for attacking when the enemy is armed, staff, for defending, sword.

EDIT: Orite. Unarmed is good at everything, but not best at anything.

Unarmed is bestist. I LOVE wall kick. Style Bonus, baby

Sword (especially for killing wolves). The knife is very good for long range attacks and the "ninja bonus" for flipping, which is just fun. Unarmed is good, but only if you use it a lot and are good at it (really, what's the point of weapons if being unarmed is better?). The staff would be a lot better if it didn't break.

my favorite is the staff for close figth and the staff do maximum damage.
