Heh, well actually a record has been set that's about 3 times faster, at 2.56tbps (that's terabits per second, or about 320 gigabytes per second), and not just in one room, but over a distance of 100 miles. Many science facilities like the Hardron collider also have access to similar speeds to be able to transfer the huge volumes of data they generate, as well as big clusters of computers to process it all.

However such ludicrous speeds are nothing any normal mortal can achieve at the moment, or for many many years to come, so I absolutely agree.
