Has anyone attempted custom model/mesh/animations?

Post by Oden Nauticus » Tue Jul 19, 2005 6:18 pm

As a furry, this game has gripped me. It's awesome.
I'd like to attempt my own mesh for Turner, however. I've searched through the forums for similar questions, but all the answers were too brief or dismissive to be conclusive. From what I can gather, the .solid format is proprietary to the Lugaru game, and no public conversion plugins exist for commercial software like Maya or 3DSMax. Has anyone come across any editors or otherwise to access the .solid format?

In any case, I will probably begin work on a custom Turner mesh (in Maya), with a little more flair, more robust physique, sleeker disposition, and of course, for more straightforward skinnability.

Given the amount of auxiliary work that has gone into the actual Turner/NPC bunnies animations, weapons, armor, and so forth; I fully expect that a custom Turner is not a viable one-man project. I intend at least to make the mesh, to sate my own artistic desires. :)
To that end, does anyone know the polycount of Turner? I'd like to stay in that neighborhood, for the sake of potential compatability.
Anyway, let me know, because knowing is half the battle.

Why don't you make a high quality bush or something for Lugaru 2... No need to make a new turner.

If my memory serves me correctly Turner was about 950 polys, but since there is no .solid converter(not even david has one anymore) I would suggest you create models that might make their way into Lugaru 2.

What do you mean more "straightforward skinnability"?

The new turner model is almost complete. I am going to start a Lugaru 2 dev blog so that I can relay all the latest developments to you guys :)

Well... this is all kind of disconcerting news.
So I guess the independent development of Lugaru 2 goes on without the series creator? A mystery man from the West appears to take the reigns? I don't know what to make of it.
All the same, I'm feeling the itch to toy with Maya again.. so there may eventually be screenshots of what I can cook up, then fade back into the peanut gallery where I belong.
Also, was I right on about the "brief and dismissive" part, or what?

Many peaceful futures!

David made the original Lugaru and is making Lugaru 2... so it is still in the hands of the series creator.

I mean you, David Project Leader!

Thanks for clearing that up for me. It puts me more at ease. Having a brother of my own, I know how much more easily it is to hold your own flesh and blood accountable for their various incompetences and crises resulting thereof.

Onward, upward, and outward, to the future!

i'dd be more than happy to make some bushes and trees for L:2, just need the specs as far as my polygon limtis and texture quality. also, as to the format of the alpha maps, i'm hoping its the same as lugaru 1 as far as that goes.
