Should Lugaru ever be a console game?

Post by rot » Wed Nov 29, 2006 10:53 pm

Obviously we all like playing it on mac or pc, but what if it were to proliferate the console universe?
I would love to see Lugaru 2 turn up on the Wii. Leaping across the horizon, and battling mid-flight with the nunchuck and remote. seems like a perfect match to me. plus its supposedly easy to develop for the wii. there could even be new levels available for download after the release.
i'd even purchase Black Shades were it to be redone and released.
what do you guys think? should or could it be implemented on a console?

David would have to hire a Wii hardware expert to be able to port it :D . FPS styled games are a lot better on computers anyways :P

It MUST be on the WII!!!

All you have to do for controls)

NOTE: hold remote steering wheel style with left thumb on d-pad

move camera = motion sensing
move character = d-pad
attack = button "1"
jump = button "2"
duck = trigger button -or- forward/backward push/pull motion sensing

NOTE: hold controller in the forward/back position to stay ducked, move it back to default position to stop ducking

Alternate configuration) Using Nunchuk

move camera = nunchuk motion sensing (not remote, nunchuk!)
move character = nunchuk joystick
attack = remote A button
duck = higher nunchuk trigger -or- remote motion down
jump = lower nunchuk trigger -or- remote motion up
Pause = remote trigger

The Wii developer kit isn't exactly free, or is it? Something around $1700? Okay, that's not that expensive, but without SDL and OpenGL, it's kinda hard to port the software.

Ok, It might be a little expencive in my book :lol: ... but it would take REALLY long to port it, and it'll be a b**** to port it also :P .

I'm not sure how the control scheme would be good for Lugaru.

wii control

Post by rot » Sat Dec 02, 2006 4:44 am

I admit I was skeptical of the Wii controls before it came out. My brother bought it on Ebay for a dramatic amount of money.... so we've been playing it a bit. It actually works really good. I got to thinking about how Lugaru would work on it while playing the bundled Sports game (boxing).

In Nintendo boxing, the nunchuck and the remote both are motion sensitive. You can hold one in each hand and punch up down left right straight forward, anything.

The hand with the remote has access to the 'A' and 'B' buttons only. The hand with the nunchuck has a joystick and the 'C' and 'Z' buttons.

It seems for running one could just use the analog joystick on the chuck. for jumping use the 'A' button on the remote. Throwing and grabbing could be a combination of say 'C' and motion/release of button(hold). To punch or use a weapon, just swing your left or right hand in the direction you want to strike. To kick hold 'B' while motioning where the hit will be.

Anyway, it seems highly configurable. There could even be the option to use a gamecube controller for the less adventurous players. Multiplayer seems like a good addition also.

Also, I don't really consider Lugaru to be a FPS. Seems like if you can see the back of your players head (and its not detached) then its in the 3rd person. I think Lugaru is a 3rd person action adventure. Not FPS. Just my opinion though.

I think he was talking about Black Shades

Also, if there's no guns at all in Lugaru, how can it even be an S, let alone FPS? :P
