Green Screen of Death

Post by Aco » Mon May 25, 2009 3:38 am

Out of the blue, Lugaru has stopped working. D':

When I start up, all I get is this:
Image
(Weird blackness at bottom of pic is the edge of my monitor. I couldn't screenshot normally, so I took a photo of it...)
It won't respond to any input from the keyboard or mouse except alt-f4 (which closes the program) and it hogs up all of my pc's memory.

I uninstalled Lugaru and re-installed it. When I started it up it was set by default to the highest settings. The various menus would work (with ridiculous amounts of lag!) but I was unable to play the game. So I dropped the settings down to minimum and ended back at the Green Screen of Death...

Can anyone help?

Ok, I played around with config.txt and found that it was the "Overall detail" setting that lets it switch between shit-menu or shit-green-eye...

No improvements otherwise, changing the resolution of either Lugaru or my system doesn't fix anything.

:EDIT: '0' for shit-green, or '1' or '2' for shit-menu

:UPDATE: Lugaru has crashed at the same time that my DVD drive started to work again (previously, it was broken, for the entire time frame of me knowing about Wolfire Games)
Which is kinda fishy. Perhaps someone else in the family updated the DVD drivers or something and it's conflicting with Lugaru...?

Hmm, I could have sworn that you fixed this problem?

Have you tried turning your dvd drive off or something?

@Tüssler: N.A. I un-installed and re-installed Lugaru. It didn't help.

@Renegade_Turner: yes.

@Ozymandias: No, not yet. I'd rather save that for the very-last-resort option, as I really like being able to use CDs and DVDs again...

I've identified the problem as trouble with the video card's driver...

10-4.

:EDIT: It turns out that there isn't really anything for me to update at all, the drivers I have are customised ones for the graphics card that I have. In any case, it was working with the current set up not long ago, so updating it doesn't seem to be the solution as Lugaru hasn't changed in the meantime.

So yeah...
I don't know what the problem is, only what some of the symptoms are. I can't fix it and still have the problem. =(
