What martial arts do you want?
What martial arts do you want?
To play as Turner (average-sized, capable fighter), what MA style do you want to play like?
personally, i prefer aiki/wing chun mix(like S. Seagal/Ip Man film), with some "wrestling" abilities of course, plus being capable of karate strikes and high kicks of taekwondo
[if only Overgrowth will get this far of simulating MA]

I think it's likely he'll do mixed martial arts. muay thai is great though.
Re: What martial arts do you want?
Aikido, totally. But others too. We know for sure from Wolfire that each species will have it's own style.

Re: What martial arts do you want?
I'd like to see the wolfire team come up with made up martial arts moves for overgrowth like..
Rabbit kick boxing, wolf fang fist, rat attack, meow wrestling, & doggeh style.

Re: What martial arts do you want?
This thread is missing few styles, like boxing.
I don't believe Overgrowth will have any exact martial art, but will try to incorporate some of the basic ideas they're based on, and perhaps also referencing the look of a spesific art.

Martial arts I would like to see in Overgrowth... lemme think...
Oh, I know!
Rabbit-Fu, Cat-Fu, Rat-Fu, Dog-Fu and Wolf-Fu. Also, some Civilian-Fu wouldn't go astray.
Really, I don't see why we would want to see a simulation of real life martial arts. Don't get me wrong, they do provide a fertile source of inspiration. However, there are more interesting options. Especially when considering that the characters in Overgrowth technically (and physiologically) aren't human. In my opinion, a cat (or rabbit or wolf etc) who does muay-thai is nowhere near as engaging as a cat that pounces and bites and fights like, well... like a bipedal cat.

I want to see some Glima styles incorporated into the game.

Icelandic wrestling style. Looks interesting.kuhfelsen wrote:I want to see some Glima styles incorporated into the game.
Re: What martial arts do you want?
yea but from what it looks on wiki, it's more like game than win-by-all-means martial art; i mean, it's limitations are only for nobleness, not for effective principlesGlima
ha-ha it's looks like aiki is winning , but Wing Chun voices are missing, because.. just look up Ip Man film
ps: waiting for Ip Man 2 (at 2010)
ps2: also i do wing chun myself, you can check our club's videos at http://www.wingchun.su/video/

Re: What martial arts do you want?
Turner uses MMA in Lugaru. Ranges from cheap tricks like kicking someone while they're down, to more modern disarms, to traditional-styled acrobatic moves like his handspring and flipping abilities.
I think in Overgrowth, it would be cool to see more grappling and Judo/Aikido styled possibilities. As it stands, there's basically the "throw the dude over your shoulder" option... not particularly exciting <_<

In the context of swords, staves and daggers, what was "more modern" about the disarms? When I think of modern disarms, I think of someone trying to get a handgun away from someone.Ragdollmaster wrote:Turner uses MMA in Lugaru. Also, thanks a lot for bringing Aikido up. I had never tried searching for spesific aikido terms (strike to the head, men-uchi, or spesific "throw" counter-techniques, like irimi-nage) in Youtube, and I found lots of great videos when I decided to see if I could find videos about aikido counters that look like Lugaru counters. I started with the basic iriminage and tenchinage, but I just kept finding more and more. I'll have to go through these when I get sound back and add them to the video reference thread, (unless some does that before me, hint hint ).
Here's a really cool "Yokomen uchi tenchi nage"

this guy has lots of short videos about single techniques, excellent for the video reference thread.
other cool videos about single techniques, from different sources:

russian aikido training. the attackers don't even look like they're trying to really hit the target, but perhaps that's why this is training and not a fight?

Re: What martial arts do you want?
I wish the devs will look at kali sticks/escrima latosa when designing the weapon fighting. Especially for two weapon fighting there is nothing like it.

Those aren´t the best examples but I´m in a hurry.
