game quits loading challenge 8

if i open the game and go straight to challenge 8, the game will crash while its loading. however, if i play through challenge 7, then 8 will load, but after i quit, the game will lock my whole machine up the next time i try to run it. any suggestions?

played around a little, it is the completion of challenge 10 that causes the game to no longer function, but i had everything else right.
