Short Film

Post by hamish_123 » Fri Nov 21, 2008 8:19 pm

Have a watch adn tell me what you think. I made it in a day (which is probably very obvious). So tell me if you think its crap, good, great, pretend you watched it, laugh at me mercilessly - your choice, just tell me what you think.

Pretty funny, nice job Hamish, it shows talent as a director, did you write the script?

Thanks! Yeah i wrote the script etc. I had to shoot it with a crappy digital camera as im saving for a proper camera as of now. So hopefully soon ill be making better quality (in terms of visual anyway) movies.

And Count Roland, don't worry about it, we all have a few spelling mistakes here and there, you just happened to have your lifetimes worth in one sentence :D

This is pretty cool, I really like some of the sequences you do (like 2:03 - 2:14). they're nice and artistic :)

So here comes the criticism. I'm a film major, so I love to do this..

The ambient sound is inconsistent at times (mainly wind and diegetic music). this would be ok except that I think you are trying to maintain consistency with the image

The frames of black between 1:25-1:38 seemed kind of pointless to me. I don't know if you had an intention for them or not.
actually it seems you often use black to separate sequences that occur in different times. I don't like it personally, I would either just cut or use a dissolve (although that's more cheesy and doesn't fit in with your style). I like the idea of just cutting, since you've already got a lot of it.

I would fade the end or do something so that it doesn't just cut out.

Nice job :D Make another.

Thankyou :D Very fair and true criticisms which i can hopefully resolve soon. I have made another short film very similiar to it found here: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=OW8jRBC0MGw

But I'm afraid the focus is not to good (focuses and unfocuses alot) and the sound inconsistencies are again a problem, but all in all I'm quite proud of it.

Yea man, you should be. Film is awesome :)

edit: The point of view shot of the clock is sweet. Those kind of techniques make it interesting.
