Re: Frosting your itty-bits - Let's Play: Icewind Dale

For Icewind Dale, you probably want a full party of 6, with less party members, you gain more experience and level faster, but you end up with less abilities and it becomes harder because you're limited.

Well, I could do Baldur's Gate II, but as I said, its more epic adventure than dungeon crawl, and some of the side quests are given to you from the NPCs you have in your party, rather than just by finding them. I could do BG2 if I made 3-4 custom characters, and left the other slots open for joinable NPCs (You can still bungle through the game with 6 custom guys, but there's less character interaction). I'll see what people think.

We have Icewind Dale, which is more dungeon crawl, the story is mostly there to get you to more crushing (its not bad, but it takes a sideline to the smashing of enemies dangly bits).

-or-

Baldur's Gate II is more of an epic adventure, complete with puzzles, side quests, and character interaction, there's less of a focus on smashing everyone's face in. It also uses a more advanced engine and has more character creation options. There's also dragons.

Are we to expect as much humor from this as Madou Mazarrati or whatever?

Well neither game is as inherently funny.

But you are...

Let me rephrase my original question.

Of course.
Icewind Dale is a blank slate because its pretty much devoid of any character development at all (which means its entirely open to interjections and random comments). Baldur's Gate II has a well developed storyline and characters (which means I won't be making up lines for them or anything, although I would be commenting on their actions). There are some fairly ridiculous NPCs you can collect for your party however (Minsc, Anomen, Aerie, Korgan, Edwin, and Nalya...), so I could just collect morons for the party.
...
In fact, I think that's what I'll do. Baldur's Gate II gives you more character creation options, sarcasm is awesome (yes, sarcasm can be an answer to everything in BG2...), and its much nicer looking (it also has less technical issues running on my computer since its a newer game...IWD gives me some screen stretching and dual screen problems).
...
God, this is going to be one of most volatile parties I've played this game with, they'll probably all try to kill each other half way through the game...
Gonna go edit the first post.

Because Baldur's Gate II uses a modified Dungeon's & Dragon's 2nd Edition rule set.

I see.
By the way, are your links only for the Baldur's Gate (original) classes and races, or do they cover it for all the Baldur's Gate games?

The links are for Baldur's Gate II...because this Let's Play is for Baldur's Gate II and its expansion.

But the content of those sites applies to all of the Baldur's Gate games, right?

I came upon it while doing a Google search for Baldur's Gate II stuff, I didn't explore the site. But most likely, this information applies to all Baldur's Gate games using the modified 2nd Edition D&D rules...

Alright, good.
So when do you indend to start this Epic Adventure, do you wait for a complete party or do you have a dead-line where it is to late to apply?

Well, I'm waiting to see if anyone wants to redo the one's they've submitted so far, since there's more choices (or if people want to submit more of them). I've looked over the ones that were submitted for Icewind Dale, and none of them interest me in the slightest (at least for single-custom character parties, with a mix of them, maybe). I was hoping to have a larger number of submissions and I'd just choose my favorites, and if there were a number of them, pick one at random. If I don't get any more submissions within a few days, I'll just make a character.
