Phoenix Engine 8-1-05 Starting Terrain

Post by David » Mon Aug 01, 2005 3:36 pm

I have been spending most of my time setting up the Lugaru 2 project, but now I am focusing on programming again.

I have basic terrain rendering implemented now, similar to Lugaru except smoother and higher resolution. Soon I will add more interesting effects like grass rendering and texture blending.

Nice, no obvious geometry like there was in Lugaru.

The grass engine in Lugaru is going to be insane.

Oh yeah, the tree technology is going to be jaw-dropping too.

Trees, let me guess..... The leaves will have polygons unstead of foliage?

By the way david, it would be cool to see a screenshot in wireframe mode, possibly faces?

realistically you really cant have that. it will probably be the same a the first engine but obviously made with more time and effort. the grass should look good but if you want it to run on an average computer don't hope for anything 'insane'

Are you using 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit channels for the heightmap, if indeed you are using one.

Foliage = Leaves.

Why I said that was because I do recall that to make foliage you need to use a polygon plane. So if david wanted to, he could just use more polygons inorder to shape the leaves instead of using just a polygon plane.

you mean drawing the individual leaves as polygons instead of a tree as a trunk and two polygons.

[edit]looking at your location, I heavily doubt you get to be on the staff with an avatar like that.[/edit]

The avatar is from bleach, it has nothing to do with my location. Besides people don't mind my icon, after all, there are admins on this site who are anime fans.
